How Many Times!

 

How many times in your life has your load felt too heavy to bear
How many times did you move forward though your path wasn't very clear,
How many times did you think you were drowning but came up only to find air?
Enough to never question GODS will cause through it all you're still here.

Blackness

 

I'm feeling black, black in every way
Black in the morning when I open my eyes
Black at night when I kneel down to pray
You see black is my mind, as black as my behind
Black like Huey, Martin, and Malcolm
Black from the beginning, till my time for dying
See I'm proud of my color, for my color was first
All others derive from me, so how could my color be a curse?
I am his creation
First chosen by the lord to populate this earthly nation
Now look me in my eyes, tell me you can't understand my frustration
For my true history has not been ridden in most books of education
And though I'm black when I dress to go to school
Where they don't teach my rich black history
Still I'm nobody's fool
I am black and powerful, and I'll say it out loud
Whether we're one on one, or I'm in front of a crowd
I'll wear my blackness proud in this world, while I'm dealin'
Cause for the rest of my life, black is how I'm feelin'

Compromise

In this cold, cold world of compromise
We've all come to this fork in the road
Of the lessons we've learned in this here life
Which road will we uphold?
Though we know right from wrong
We're often stuck in the middle
And it's at these times we kneel to pray
Though the world we live in is either black or white
We often operate in the gray
See many of the decisions we've made in our life
Are based on Photos of events in our lifetime
But if the lens was out of focus when our mind took the pictures
Then we may as well have been blind
So we've compromised, and we compromise
In situations where our discipline is not that strong
Until we feel good, well...as good as we could
About compromising what's right

The High Price You Pay

My sisters, my sister what price are you willing to pay
To see yourself on the magazines or be the topic of conversation for a day!
See you've been given the ultimate gift of being our lovely songbird
So stop believing that you must be naked for your sweet song to be heard.
Sister you don't have to shake your ass, and move your mouth
Or show the world what you possess down south
By wiggling your hips and licking your lips
Just degrading your beauty for those on ego trips!
Because if your intention is to get a man's attention
then you have definitely succeeded cause we've watched your dissention.
As you talk about you're hip-hopping because that's what's hip
You find yourself bed-hopping because it's written in the script.
Now I'm just analyzing, checking out your actions
And saying what you think are additions are basically subtractions
Because all you truly have done is to get someone excited
to jump off on your body, but your mentality is truly misguided.
Now I'm not trying to tell you how to get paid
Hell everybody's got to eat!
But if you choose the path of the slaughter house
Realize you're just another piece of meat
Ladies all I'm really saying is whether you're from the East, West, North, or South
Double check how you carry yourself
And watch the language which flows from your mouth
Cause you don't have to compromise yourself for true men to hear what you
have to say, and losing your beautiful dignity

Man In the Mirror

There's no special way for me to pray, no certain words that I should say
so I'll keep it short because that's my way, and pray you hear my prayer today.
Dear GOD, it's that time again, to have a conversation from deep within
to bring you my thoughts, and put them on the table
because you know that I'm willing, and I know that you're able.
Able to pull me through when times are rough
though when things go right, I don't thank you enough.
So once again I call you Lord to get me through another day
dialing your number quite often, really not knowing what to say.
So I drop to my knees in search for the words
longing for the days, when I could hear the birds
I try to focus for the journey back, from the road of living hell
But only then do I realize just how far I really fell.
Still I just get on with the task of talking to you
Cause Lord you know my thoughts, even better than I do
I'll just present to you how I am, and who I've come to see
And ask that you help me to become the man in the mirror...

That I truly want to be.

To Serve And Protect

 

Death squads hiding behind the shield of justice
Paid to protect, but rarely respect us.
When we need them most, they often neglect us
Then stick guns in our faces, like it doesn't affect us.

They approach our cars, with their guns blazing
They've become the enemy in our hood
The same hood they were raised in.

So when they pull us over, we keep our hands on the wheel
Though we have a license for real, they have a license to kill!
To hit us with their sticks, brutalize us with their kicks
And tell us to get our black asses on down the way!
But when they're across the tracks, yes these are the facts
It's "YES SIR, YES MA'AM, HOW ARE YOU DOING
And HAVE A NICE DAY!

Just The Other Day

God talked to me just the other day
He said my child you're slipping, get on your knees and pray
I know your road has been hard, but you're one of the chosen few
That's fought through all the madness, that's been placed in front of you

See I've made no mountain too high for you to climb
No chain so strong that you can't break
I've made no room so dark that you can't see the light
Allowed no pain so severe that you can't take.

But you must have faith deep down inside your heart
And know I've seen all your problems, even before they start
Because I've always been here, right by your side
I've felt the tears from your eyes on the many nights you've cried

Remember the times when you felt that you couldn't make it through
Those were the times I stepped in and carried you
So remember my child your spirit and soul is not for sell
And you may come to heaven with half the pains
In which it costs you to purchase hell!

WHY I'M PISSED

Let me start a list to tell you why I'm pissed
Why I never fully smile, why one hand is always a fist
I look at a system that's not quite right
Just because my skin is not that bright

I went through the process of being processed
Only to find myself in more processed mess
Though I build up this country and did my best
At the end of the day I'm treated as so much less
I've been hung in trees, burnt and beat to my knees
Though the camera always flashing, seems no one really sees
Now they insist on telling me that my eyes don't see
The things that I see, they say it just can't be

So there's not enough time to complete this list
but this is just an example of things that keep me Pissed!

Morning Thoughts Poem (TIME)

Time can't be seen, has no beginning nor end
So make the most of your time,
For it can be enemy or friend
From the time that we enter, till the time we leave
Time is an equal opportunist, in which we can smile or grieve
Time is the only creation that never goes back
It never grows old; it's neither white nor black
Yet it's the one thing in life over which no man has power
So only God really knows our time by minute day and hour
Time waits for no one, but it’s neither fast nor slow
It's what we do in your time that tells how our life will go
But the truth as we know it is time will always reveal

ASK YOURSELF

Ask yourself "What can you take with you?
when the weight of your personal world
is lifted from your shoulders, and you ascend
to meet the creator.

Are you so caught up on the pleasures of
your surrounding flesh, that you cannot break
through the mental chains which prevents your spirit
from transcending to higher ground, a place in which
you will become closer to the one responsible for your
